Latin dancers of Mambo and Salsa and the general public are invited to the movie showings of "the most-anticipated movie in Latin music history" (Israel "Cachao" Lopez; March 2008, Phone Interview): "La Epoca - The Palladium Era" - a film about the roots behind the umbrella term "Salsa," and its affects on the generations of musicians and dancers that have followed since its conception to present day. Endorsed as "a MUST-SEE" (Cuban Pete, July 29 2008, Barbara Craddock Management) by international Mambo dance legend "Cuban Pete," a pioneer of Mambo dancing at the Palladium Ballroom in NY during the 1950's, "La Epoca is a feature-length documentary-film about the evolution of Latin music and dance from the Palladium-era (1948-1970) to present day. The film covers in-depth detail regarding the controversy over dancing "on 1" versus dancing "on 2," Mambo versus Salsa, and the film focuses heavily on the controversy over the the umbrella term "Salsa" and its affects on the musicians and dancers since the conception of the word's use to describe Latin music. "La Epoca" has also recieved nods from Miami, Florida mega-recording studio The Hit Factory's Music Producer Carlos Cobos as, "AMAZING!" (Written/In-Person Endorsement, July 29, 2008, Miami, FL) and also by Havana, Cuba's Buena Vista Social Club Sponsor Freddy Pagan as, "EVERY MAMBERO AND SALSERO MUST SEE THIS FILM!" (In-Person Screening, July 30, 2008, Miami, FL). The film's first showing is on August 29, Friday, at Club Bongos located at 3715 East North St in Greenville, SC at 6:30pm sharp and the film's second showing is on September 06, at the Morehead St Tavern located at 300 E. Morehead St in Charlotte, NC at 6:30pm sharp. Guests are encouraged to participate in an open discussion with the producers of the film immediately afterwards in an "open-forum." All guests are invited to both showings. Immediately following BOTH showings is LIVE ENTERTAINMENT featuring Latin music for dancing Mambo, Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha and other Latin dances. Greenville, SC at Bongo's features live music by Orquesta Nuevo Montuno - the very orchestra featured in the "La Epoca" Studio Music Videos and the move soundtrack. Sponsored in-part by SalsaGreenvilleSC.com Susan Zaglin. Charlotte, NC at Morehead St Tavern also features Orquesta Nuevo but this evening will ALSO feature LIVE PERFORMANCES by actual Palladium-era Legend Bassist Alfonso "El Panameno" (Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco, Chalie Palmieri, Eddie Pamieri, Arsenio Rodriguez) and dance performances by Charlotte Salsa's Rodrigo and Wendy Jimenez and also by Charlotte, NC Salsa Kings Competition 1st Place winners Harold Carrillo and Laura Villamil. The film features music and rhythms that are very rarely heard in present day. Producers welcome all walks of life to view the movie and to live INSIDE the memories and experiences of the high-profile LEGENDARY musicians and dancers who appear in the film, such as "Cuban Pete," Charlie Rodriguez and Agustin Caraballoso and many others. What makes these two evenings SO special is that portions of the movie were ACTUALLY FILMED AT BOTH of these venues in Greenville, SC and in Charlotte, NC - and many of the dancers who were filmed - do appear in the movie - and some will be present to watch the movie at both showings! Come and sit side-by-side with some of the film's cast members - and meet, up close and personal - the producers of the film! The film uncovers who the inventor of the mambo rhythm was and how Latin music and dance have become what they are, today. This movie is jammed-packed with Latin dancing, original Latin music, black and white footage of the Palladium-era during the 1950's AND AMAZING information!! Watch and listen to the musicians who were among the legends that USHERED IN all of the Latin music and rhythms that, in present day, have been meshed together - all under one umbrella term: "Salsa."
