I think I might like to move to Black Mountain...
I am retiring within the next 4 or 5 years and am intriqued with the thought of living in a place like Black Mountain. My wife makes quilts and we make toys and I carve wizards, santas, bowls and spoons. I also do little turnings and such. We would like to be in an area in which there are more crafty people than where we are now. Does anyone out there know some individual who might be selling out within the next few years? I don't like the real estate traps that are out there. I would rather buy from an individual.

Black Mountain rocks. But you better be ready to work for it. the town is rather small and a lot of artisans. But oh what a view and a breeze.

Thanks for the positive spin. It is a beautiful little town, and the joy of the work is not the result, it's the work itself. Making things pretty and making pretty things somehow defies being described as work...

I've lived in Blk Mtn for 26 years now, so obviously it is a GREAT place to be. I think the best thing to do is place an ad in the Black Mountain News (online at www.blackmountainnews.com)and just plant the seeds. Maybe there is a shopkeeper or property owner that is thinking of retiring themselves in a few years! Good Luck. Sandi www.shopthemountains.com

That is good information. I just looked on the shop the mountain site. I can see its potential. Thanks for responding. We went to some galleries the last time we were in the area, and it is inspiring, to say the least. Good thoughts happen when you are making things.

and don't forget the dripolator. By far the finest coffee i've ever tasted. I recommend the Sumatra.

There is nothing better than coffee on a cold breezy morning. I love Kona. It is robust. My usual is the convenience of Folgers Instant, but when I retire, I think I'll live in the instant instead of drinking it. I just made some little trains this week and was thinking how nice they would look in the window of a gallery in a town that's friendly to the souls of people who like to create. As I wiped them smooth and put them together, it took me to the little toy shop in my mind.
