Asheville Home Buying

Current Mortgage Rates - Graph includes last 51 weeks The Asheville Housing market is a little bit on the ridiculous side of expensive. This is good news for current owners but new buyers are finding it harder and harder to find a decent deal on a home. If you are moving to the Asheville area then of course a broker is going to have to be your new best friend. Still it helps to pay our humble town a visit and see which areas you would like to live. This story reviews different areas of Asheville from the perspective of home buyers to help you get your feet firmly planted in the soil we call Asheville.

If you've got tons of money then you can pretty much live anywhere. Montford is a great little neighborhood on the north side of town just across from I-240. Some really big homes there with some really big price tags. Perfectly planned streets though with a wonderful neighborhood feeling to them. Expect houses to range from the very high 100,000s all the way up to the $500,000 range. Of course there are bigger places in Montford too. About fifteen years ago, the Montford revival really kicked into high gear and renters and home buyers pretty much stalk the place looking for a home. If you want to be a landlord, Montford is the perfect spot for sure.

Next to Montford is the Charlotte Street Grove Park North Asheville area. The place really doesn't have its own name but its sortof like Montford and the housing boom is already flourishing but you may find a better deal here. Charlotte is also north of I-240 with less well planned neighborhoods but some really cozy homes regardless. Probably the most expensive area is Kimberly Avenue. It offers an impressive view of the Grove Park Inn and the street has its very own flock of Wild Turkeys. Really stylish area with huge tree-lines streets and homes to blow the mind. Keeping going north and you hit the ridge which also hits your wallet, but the view of Asheville can't be beat. Asheville is basically a giant bowl and this is the northern rim.

A real hot area for up-and-comers is Haw Creek. This is east Asheville and the homes there are still modestly priced for the most part. Rough planning in some areas and the new Super Walmart may cause some traffic woes but the market here is very strong.

Need a broker? I highly recommend Keller Williams Ashley St Martin. She sold us our home and she really knows the area. We also got a great rate where others couldn't from Great Smokies Mortage Inc.
