Is Asheville getting an indoor ski resort?
Rumors resemble opinions and we hear a lot of them. Bearing this in mind, is Asheville getting an indoor ski resort? Yes, an indoor ski resort. Sounds like a rather unfreidnly environmental blow but this is America afterall. Canton Wintersports Center at Westmoreland Resorts is planning a forty acre indoor resort complete with five ski slopes with a projected vertical drop of 3600 feet. The horse's mouth is quoted below.
This is a full-blown winter sports resort with 5 indoor slopes between 3,600 feet (family run) and 750 feet (moguls) on actual mountain slopes with just over 40 acres under roof. The extreme slope is about 3/4 mile long, with an overall drop of about 900 feet. With 6 total inside triple lifts, there won’t be long wait lines, so you can make back-to-back runs that will challenge even the most advanced/professional-level skiers and snowboarders.
The alpine slopes are between 24% and 36% for skiers, an extreme slope for adrenaline junkies, moguls, half-pipes and a free style terrain area for the snowboarders, and of course, something for the beginner.
